Gauteng parliamentarians celebrate Madiba`s birthday Madiba style

18 July 2013

ANC stalwart and former president Nelson Mandela would have loved if his birthday was celebrated in ways that demonstrate nation building. And that`s what all Gauteng ANC parliamentarians will be doing today.

But a special treat will be reserved for the world icon himself. The Tshwane Regional ANC Parliamentary Constituency Office (PCO) will join hands with the Soshanguve Pick ? Pay in delivering a big Cake at the Medi Clinic as part of the get-well-wishes for Madiba. With the cake, the PCO will thank the Medi Clinic heroes and heroines - the staff members- who are caregivers to our beloved leader.

Minster for Women and Children and People with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana, the Speaker of National Assembly, Max Sisulu and the Tshwane PCO Convener and Gauteng Legislature Deputy Chief Whip, Jacqui Mofokeng will be joined by Tshwane Gospel Choir accompanied by 50 children and 95 Senior Citizens as well-wishers singing birth day carols for the world statesman.

Other activities across the province will range from cleaning campaigns, planting trees, upkeep of targeted households of the elderly, cleaning of schools, for as will be case in the Diepkloof, Midrand, Roodeport and the Johannesburg Inner City PCOs, whilst in Palestine and Tembisa the focus will be on economic development through the encouragement of the establishment of co-operatives, assistance with establishment of small businesses and as well as economic opportunities workshop and career exhibitions as will be the case in Kempton Park.
