Randburg PCO Honour top learners

18 April 2013

The toast of the Class of 2012 Randburg matriculants are set for a flashy do at the Monte Casino in Fourways this Saturday, African National Congress (ANC) Caucus in the Gauteng Legislature announced today.

ANC Randburg Political Constituency Office (PCO) Head Sphiwe Mgcina said the PCO in partnership with Tsogo Sun will honour the top 55 Grade 12 learners from the class of 2012 as part of efforts to encourage learners to do well in school and encourage others to emulate them by taking education seriously.

He said the event, which is billed as a lunch with a partner, will be attended by all the best performing learners from 11 Secondary Schools in that constituency as guests of honour. It will feature short speeches and handing over of certificates and will start at 11 in the morning and end just after two in the afternoon.

Other dignitaries will include Gauteng Education Department Head, Greg Scheemann ANC MP and Whip of its Programming in the Constituency Unit in the National Assembly as well as Senior Managers from Tsogo Sun and others in both education and political cycles.

"This is the second installment of a series of an initiative which we started last year. The idea is to model these youngsters as ambassadors who will encourage their younger counterparts to do well in school. Education is the single most important thing any child can ever have and with this initiative we hope to inculcate a culture of learning amongst the youth. We are very grateful to Tsogo Sun for their continued support and wish others in the private sector would join them in this wonderful work. Our country is in desperate need of progressive and positive role models especially for our young people," Mgcina said.
